10 Years of Adder

Another Stealth Adder Rock weekend has been completed and it truly was a great way to mark the 10^th anniversary of the competition.

The comp has seen many competitors over the years, scoring systems have changed, we have experienced all sorts of weather conditions and seen a myriad of different species brought in for scoring – however this years’ event had a vibe unlike any other.

As has become customary for many of our entrants over the years, a lot of pre-fishing had taken place and whilst there were reports of cold water, there were also some great fish being caught.

We kicked off proceedings with a BBQ briefing on the Friday night. Boerie rolls and Bloke beers in hand our entrants mingled and got ready for another exciting weekend on the water. Following a quick briefing our entrants were provided with their welcome packs and teams were announced. This year the teams were as follows:

• Brisbane Bream
• Brisbane Bonito
• Brisbane Barbel
• Gold Coast Guppies
• Gold Coast Goatfish
• Mexican Mullet
• Sunny Coast Sand whiting 
• Sunny Coast Sardine
• NQ Needlefish

Rugged up for reprieve from cooler conditions, 65 of our 66 entrants launched in the early hours of Saturday for the first session.

A tough session saw 24 anglers score 27 fish; species included: Snapper, Spangled Emperor, Longtail Tuna, Blubberlip, Grassy Sweetlip, Mac Tuna, Slatey Bream and a very impressive GT.

Gary Mathias topped the session with his GT.

Afternoon conditions at Adder were excellent and the second session was certainly the pick in terms of conditions. In this session 34 Fish were recorded by 24 anglers. Similar species were recorded in this session with a Jew Fish, Moses Perch and Scorpion fish being added to the list.

Nicholas Sangster topped this session with a great Snapper and Jew Fish.

Unfortunately, our third and final session on Sunday morning had to be called off early owing to a rather nasty westerly wind. Thanks to Ido and Jord for their assistance during this session. Three fish were scored in this short session. A very nice Spangled Emperor, a snapper and a Bonito.

After all the fish were tallied the scoring came out as follows:

AKS wishes to congratulate those who managed to score fish, in somewhat tricky sessions. Well done to those who claimed prizes, whether by scoring fish or by Lucky Draw.

Following a prize giving ceremony and lucky draws, AKS moved onto the most important part of the comp – the Team Comp.

This year saw the Sunny Coast Sand whiting take back top honours.
